Evelyn Brand is an American foreign correspondent as determined to prove her worth in a male-dominated profession as she is to expose the growing tyranny in Nazi Germany. To do so, she must walk a thin line. If she offends the government, she could be expelled from the country--or worse. If she fails to truthfully report on major stories, she'll never be able to give a voice to the oppressed--and wake up the folks back home.

In another part of the city, American graduate student Peter Lang is working on his PhD in German. Disillusioned with the chaos in the world due to the Great Depression, he is impressed with the prosperity and order of German society. But when the brutality of the regime hits close, he discovers a far better way to use his contacts within the Nazi party--to feed information to the shrewd reporter he can't get off his mind.

I am a Huge Fan of WW2 Fiction and Non-Fiction.

And I've enjoyed every book I've read by Sarah Sundin in this genre. That's more than a dozen novels!
Just when I thought Sarah Sundin couldn’t get any better, then came When Twilight Breaks.

Munich, 1938.

A time and place I’d never wish to visit without a guaranteed escape route. I daresay no one who lived through the time period would want to go back either. And yet, this history should never be forgotten. When Twilight Breaks takes us there with meticulous accuracy and intriguing dramatic style.

Evelyn Brand and Peter Lang were so relatable. I could not put their story down! When an author can take such a well-known timeline and historical facts reported to the nth degree and still invest me in the characters and their plight, then I call that a winner.

Full of plot twists and turns, a dangerous and intense setting, and the classic themes of hope, courage, and faith--When Twilight Breaks is a WW2 reader’s delight.
I am giving away one paperback copy of When Twilight Breaks.

Hi Shannon,

I agree. The time period is fascinating for any history lover. Both of my grandfathers served in the Pacific. And my husband's paternal grandparents lived in Poland during the invasion. There is so much to learn!

Hello. What a wonderful giveaway! Not my usual go-to genre, I'm a cozy-mystery gal, but I just finished reading The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel and couldn't put it down. I believe this book is going to be just as good as that one....and I might have to start expanding my go-to genres to include historical fictions!

Amy Grochowski
3/10/2021 09:50:06 pm

Hi Kristen!
You’ve inspired me to put The Book of Lost Names on my to-be-read list. My favorite cozies are the historical ones. I do believe there’s enough mystery/suspense in this story to keep your interest, as well as the history. How fun to discover a new genre to love!

It was a very good book, right from the very beginning. You won't regret reading that one! I'm excited to see if I'm a winner (fingers crossed)...if not, I'll definitely be borrowing this one from the library! I love getting recommendations for books I wouldn't have otherwise known about, so thank you for making me aware : )

Hi Amy!
So lovely to 'see' you again. I know you love to read books set in your home country, Canada. Wondering if you've read No Ocean too Wide by Carrie Turansky. Here's a bit of the blurb, in case you wanst to check it out.

"Between the years of 1869 to 1939 more than 100,000 poor British children were sent across the ocean to Canada with the promise of a better life. Those who took them in to work as farm laborers or household servants were told they were orphans--but was that the truth?

Inspired by true events, this moving novel follows Laura as she seeks to reunite her family and her siblings who, in their darkest hours, must cling to the words from Isaiah: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God".

I really enjoy reading about WWII probably because both my father and my stepfather were in the Army during that time period with my stepfather being stationed in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was bombed. My mother was also very involved with the USO and helped out wherever possible. I also have many other family members who were in the military during that time and had stories to tell. Thank you for this wonderful generous giveaway!

Hi Jan!

Your family's involvement in WW2 sounds very interesting. I think you're right--these close connections are what make the genre so intriguing. How I wish I'd asked more questions of my grandparents when I had the chance! Best wishes in the giveaway.

After reading The Diary of Anne Frank while in 7th grade, I chose to do my first research project on the WWII era. I have always been fascinated by this era and the lessons from history that society still has not learned from.

This book sounds very interesting!

Amy Grochowski
3/11/2021 10:37:05 am

Hi Cristel!

Yes, Anne Frank influenced so many of us! How soon through the generations those lessons seem to be forgotten. I do think this book is a wonderful reminder too. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope schoolkids will continue to be inspired by Anne's diaries too.

I am so fascinated by the people and the situations that some had to deal with. I often try to put myself in their situation and wonder what I would have done.

Amy Grochowski
3/11/2021 10:49:53 am

Hi Donna!
Me too! I suppose we can't really know what we'd do, but it's a good exercise to contemplate the options. As my pastor likes to say, "You will likely do what you've already decided ahead of time. If you haven't made a choice beforehand, then you're more likely to make the wrong one in the heat of the moment." Seems wise to me!
Best wishes in the giveaway!

I am interested in the WWII period because my Dad was a veteran of that war, and also it was a time the country managed to pull together and women began to emerge as a force in the economy.

Amy Grochowski
3/11/2021 10:55:34 am

Hi Linda!

Thanks for sharing about your dad. The world really changed because of the war. I live in North Carolina and one of the biggest changes for our state was the huge impact to the economy due to all the military bases that sprung up along our coast and throughout the state. NC was traditionally very poor and the Great Depression had worsened things further. One Carolina boy in the Pentagon in charge of finding locations for military bases changed all of that. So much fascinating history!
Best wishes in the giveaway.
